Embrittlement of polybutylene terephthalate induced by injection molding

چکیده

Embrittlement caused by injection molding was investigated on a commercial grade of Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT). The effect temperature and residence time in the barrel mechanical properties studied. Results were discussed from macromolecular analysis Gel Permeation Chromatography crystallinity measurements differential scanning calorimetry. It shown that embrittlement exclusively occurs chain scission process those conditions. Oxygen is to play negligible role degradation while thermolysis seems be main source degradation. here described first simple kinetic model based beta abstraction hydrogen at vicinity ester groups. A processing window thus determined using this might help practitioners for PBT parts.
